Jake Gyllenhaal shows up in Nashville for house concert by Mumford & Sons – Examiner.com

When it comes to England’s Mumford & Sons, some major Hollywood stars will travel anywhere to hear them. Such was the case on Saturday night in Nashville. Local guitarist, Mike Harris decided to host an impromptu music concert featuring his own band, TheApache Relay, fiddle player Ross Holmes and banjoist extraordinaire Matt Menefee (both are former tour mates). Bigger than a typical Living Room Concert, this party was attended by a couple hundred of Mike’s closest pals in his spacious Granny White Pike home in Nashville. What made it extra special though were the musical guests from Britain and the Hollywood actors in attendance. Even though Nashville is used to Hollywood actors and famous musicians, everyone agreed – this was extra special!

Mumford & Sons, who are up for two Grammys including best new artist, showed up at the party to give a special surprise performance to all attendees. Yes, it was a very different venue from the sold-out War Memorial Auditorium performance in Nashville in November. But, this was way more intimate and tons more fun for the fans who were invited to this party.

Actor and big fan Jake Gyllenhaal traveled all the way from LA along with English actress Carey Mulligan, who is also a fan of Mumford & Sons, who hails from her hometown of West London. Jake and Carey arrived with the band after they all dined at City House earlier in the evening – an Italian spot in Nashville’s Germantown neighborhood known for its house-made salami and mozzarella.

After the performances ended around 1:00 a.m. or so, about 50 folks including the host, the bands that performed, local pop success Mat Kearney and members of Old Crow Medicine Show, settled into one of the upstairs bedrooms for an impromptu jam session that had even Gyllenhaal picking up a guitar in the room and Mulligan joining in for a sing-along of “Amazing Grace” and Old Crow’s “Wagon Wheel.”

Everyone at the party agreed that it was by far one of the best musical events of 2011 – so far!

Here’s a track from Mumford & Sons’ packed 2010 Glastonbury performance:
