Usher was granted primary custody of his sons by an Atlanta court Friday.
The new custody arrangement involving Usher Raymond V, 4, and Naviyd Ely Raymond, 3, will begin on September 1, according to the Associated Press. The R&B superstar separated from the boys’ mother, Tameka Foster, in 2008.
The court decision comes after the death of Kile Glover, Usher’s 11-year-old stepson who died following a tragic jet ski accident on July 6. Tameka was Kile’s biological mother.
At the time of Kile’s accident, Usher and Tameka were in a bitter custody battle over their sons. However, the divorced couple put their differences aside to support each other.
