But neither the first perfect 30s for Apolo Ohno and Sabrina Bryan, nor the injury-rebound performances by Shawn Johnson and Melissa Rycroft on Monday night could compare to Tuesday’s surprises, including a shocking elimination. Read on for more.
It started with three lowest-scoring couples – Kirstie Alley & Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Emmitt Smith & Cheryl Burke, and Kelly Monaco & and Val Chmerkovskiy – all being declared safe for another week.
That set the stage for one of the stronger competitors to get the boot.
After Melissa Rycroft & Tony Dovolani were then saved, it came down to perfect-scoring Ohno & Karina Smirnoff and Bryan, whose tearful dance with Louis Van Amstel was an emotional highlight this week.
In the end, Bryan was sent home. The contestant who barely made the all-stars – she got selected as the final entrant thanks to a fan vote – said she was “thankful for this experience.”
“Every single person can understand what it feels like to get a second chance,” she said. “This was that.”
“For me, this was a dream come true,” added Van Amstel. “Unfortunately our journey is up.”
