How Cobra Starship Wound Up Glamping With Tommy Hilfiger: A Love Story
A fabulously well dressed family heads out into the New Mexican wilderness for a weekend of “glamping” (glam camping), all while being serenaded by an amped-up dance band from Manhattan. Nope, it’s not the premise of a new VH1 reality program, but the runway show for Tommy Hilfiger’s spring 2012 line at Lincoln Center last week. The production brought to life the fictitious “all-American Hilfiger” family, strutting to the tunes of Cobra Starship.
It certainly isn’t a stretch to picture CS in the fashion world. “You’ve gotta be creative but have a social, business mindset,” lead singer Gabe Saporta notes, before adding that both he and guitarist Ryland Blackinton date women who work in the fashion industry. But that doesn’t mean they’ve always been blessed with dead-on style sense. Some of their early looks were dead on arrival! “Early on [in our career] we embraced a Day-Glo neon, retina-burning color palette. We looked like Harajuku girls.”
So how did these guys hook up with the king of prepster style at New York Fashion Week? We were lucky enough to get backstage at Lincoln Center and ask Hilfiger himself. “Rock music has influenced me forever, since I started my brand when I was a teen. In high school I wanted to be a rock star,” he admitted, though sadly, music wasn’t where his talent lay. “But I knew I could look like a rock star!” This love of music continues to imbue his work to this day. ”I’ve always wrapped my brand around pop culture. We’re the first designer company ever to sponsor rock tours,” he told us proudly. In many ways, it helps keep the 60-year-old young, and he counts himself a fan of the very youthful electro-pop-rock sound of Saporta and company. “I love their music,” he gushed.
And the band loves him right back. “We did the opening of the Soho store for Tommy a few years ago and we’ve kinda been bros behind the scenes since then,” Gabe told us of their first meeting. They spent the day perfecting an extended medley of their hits to accompany the models down the catwalk. Despite the practice, Ryland was little worried before the show. “There wasn’t one time we did it without messing up somewhere, so I hope we pull it off.” (We think they nailed it, by the way.)

Giuliana Rancic: "I Just Dodged The Biggest Bullet Of My Life"
It’s no secret that E! News host Giuliana Rancic, 37, and her Apprentice star hubby Bill Rancic have struggled to conceive a child. However, the glamorous television personality has recently revealed that the not getting pregnant when they were so desperately trying turned out to be a blessing in disguise.
“Do you realize that if we had gotten pregnant, I would have been done?” she candidly tells Michigan Avenue Magazine, referring to the fact that she could have died from breast cancer due to the fluctuating hormone levels encountered during pregnancy. “That would have catapulted this cancer into another level.”
Giuliana – who shocked the nation shocked with her breast cancer diagnosis, a discovery her doctors made in August as she was prepping for her third attempt at IVF – claims that after all she’s been through, including a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery, she now knows the reason she wasn’t getting pregnant.
“I think I just dodged the biggest bullet of my life,” she reveals. “People come up and they have sadness in their eyes, and I think, at a time when everyone’s looking at me with pity, I look at myself as lucky.”
As far as her emotional state after her surgeries, the entertainment host says that the whole ordeal has strengthened her relationship with her husband, claiming he lovingly changed gauze bandages, gave her sponge baths and put her hair in ponytails.
He was also the person to persuade her to look at her breasts in the mirror for the first time nearly a week after her reconstructive surgery.
“I had done a lot of research, so I didn’t expect to be disfigured, but I was pleasantly surprised.” she says. “And it will only get better.”
So what’s Giuliana up to these days?
Amazingly, she is back to work co-hosting E! News and Fashion Police. She will be appearing at the Oscars and hosting Live from the Red Carpet.
She is also hoping to launch her new charity titled Fab-uwish sometime this year. It’s similar to the Make-A-Wish charity but focuses on women suffering from breast cancer. She hopes to make dreams come true, entertaining all requests ranging from “I’ve never owned a pair of Louboutins” to “I’ve never met Ryan Gosling.”
As far as babies go, Giuliana says they hope to start trying again late this year.
“Right now we’re just on lockdown. We’re not doing IVF for at least a couple of months just to give my body a chance to recover.” she explains. “This year, yes, our journey to have a baby will continue.”

The Hunger Games Mall Tour Sounds Eerily Familiar
So, it was just announced today that the stars and director of The Hunger Games are embarking on an eight-city mall tour across the country, beginning in Los Angeles on Saturday, March 3. And we’re not sure what to think of this news. On the one hand, yay! Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth and/or their tribute frienemies will maybe be coming to your town to answer your questions in person. On the other hand, well, the thought of these young stars being ferried from town to town and presented in front of crowds sounds kind of SPOILER …
… like Katniss and Peeta’s victory tour. Except it will be done in malls instead of in town squares. And they’re probably traveling by plane, not fancy futuristic trains. And the masses there to greet them won’t be forced to attend against their will (unless you’re counting unwilling parents or significant others who don’t know what they’re missing). And they won’t be starving people about to start an uprising against the government. But yeah, other than those things, it’s eery. Actually, we’d love it if Lionsgate brought some movie magic to an event like this — perhaps for Catching Fire? — and made a full-on Panem experience for the die-hard fans. You’d have to fast for a day before attending, and dress in drab, post-apocalyptic clothing, and be pushed around by angry guards. Hmmm. Maybe there’s a reason they don’t hire us to organize these things.

Danny Devito’s Children Influence His Movie Roles
Throughout his acting career, funny man Danny Devito, 67, has played a multitude of diverse roles. Whether it be the delusional Martini in the 1975 drama One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest, a comical swindler in the 1985 romantic adventure film The Jewel of the Nile or a corrupt, waddling bird lover in the 1992 American superhero film Batman Returns, Danny always seems to deliver.
The It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia star recently opened up about his latest film endeavour – lending his voice to play the Lorax in the Dr. Suess’ computer-animated 3-D film The Lorax – and how his three children Lucy, 28, Grace, 26, and Jacob, 24, play a big part in his roles.
“I’m doing it for our kids,” the star tells For Kids Entertainment about his role in The Lorax. “And I’m doing it for us, too, because what I found about The Lorax was I do everything pretty much the same wheelhouse of characters, whether I’m in Twins [Movie] or I’m in Matilda or I’m in Sunny [It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia], but a little bit more extreme in some cases.”
When asked if he sees any of his children in Ted or in Audrey – two characters from The Lorax – Danny was quick to reply.
Yes. Well, I’ve seen my son look do-eyed at a young woman and win her over. He’s a romantic. And my daughters are also. I don’t know how it is with you guys, but in our family, the girls talk to me and we have a great relationship. They’re 28 and 26 now, and both have boyfriends. But, we’ve never talked about anything like dating or what would you. I gave them all kinds of really good advice, and Rhea too has given them all kinds of good advice.”
