Pippa Middleton has been linked with several men since she first turned heads at the wedding of her sister Kate two years ago. But one man has now emerged as a serious contender for long-term suitor: Nico Jackson.

Jackson, 35, was spotted kissing his athletic girlfriend, 29, on the slopes of St. Moritz, Switzerland, this week, after they took part in the grueling Engadin Skimarathon. And he’s already taken a family holiday with her.

So, who is the man who’s been accompanying Pippa on the Alpine slopes and shores of Caribbean islands? Here are five things to know about him:

1. He’s middle class, not upper crust.
Pippa has dabbled in aristocrats – her ex George Percy is heir to the Northumberland estate used in the Harry Potter movies – and privately educated young men. But Jackson has a distinctly middle-class background, having grown up in a terraced house in Folkestone, Kent.

2. He has a career in finance.
Jackson was educated at the Harvey Grammar School in Folkestone, where he reportedly played soccer, cricket and tennis. With other “old boys” from his school, he took part in a soccer tour in the U.S. After leaving, he earned a business studies degree at Kingston University and is now a stockbroker with Deutsche Bank.

3. He’s well equipped for ski trips.
Happily for blue-eyed Jackson, he can get his hands on ski wear easily – he’s the son of Ulrike and Martyn Jackson, who run a sportswear firm in Folkestone, which is 70 miles southeast of London.

4. He and Pippa hit it off right away.
The couple are believed to have met last fall, and it must be serious – Jackson joined the Middletons on their recent trip to Mustique.

5. He has his family’s support.
Jackson’s mother’s happy, as long as her boy is happy. She told the Daily Mail that Pippa “is absolutely charming. … We’re all just very pleased.”

Rebecca Constantino Brings Books to Disadvantaged Schools

Heroes Among Us

Back in 1999, Rebecca Constantino was doing research for her Ph.D. about what happens in schools when kids have access to luxury. That’s when she saw boxes of brand new books stacked up in the hallway of a school in Brentwood, an affluent section of Los Angeles.

“I asked the librarian what she was doing with the books,” says Constantino, 49, a Reno native who now lives in L.A.. “She said, ‘Well, we just don’t have room. I’m throwing them away.’ I said, ‘Really? Can I have them?’ She said, ‘Sure.’ “

So Constantino packed up all the books and drove them to an elementary school in Compton, an underprivileged section of the city about 15 miles away where schools were shuttering their libraries, unable to afford new books.

“A few days later, someone from Brentwood called me and said, ‘I hear you collect books,’ ” she says. “I told her, ‘I don’t really but you could bring them to me if you’d like.’ The next day I took them to another school.” After that she began getting calls from other schools and parents. “My car could fit about 4,500 books,” says Constantino, “I was really cramming them in there!”

Fourteen years later, Constantino has donated more than 1.3 million books through the non-profit she eventually created, called Access Books. She’s also helped to refurbish more than 200 libraries. “In California, there is absolutely no state funding solely designated for school libraries,” says Constantino, “But access to books changes a kid’s life.”

The schools she has helped agree. “When these kids are given books, they light up, they beam,” says Chris Stehr, principal of Vine Street Elementary School, where Contantino has supplied books and refurbished the library. “For a lot of low socio-economic communities, books are a luxury. They view these books as treasures.”

With the help of volunteers and donors, Constantino spends her Saturday afternoons making deliveries and renovating run-down school libraries. “It only takes a day,” says Constantino, “We paint and give each library a rocking chair, a reading rug and a couch.”

A professor at the University of California-Irvine and an adjunct professor at UCLA, Constantino says the kids she serves are truly grateful. “People think that kids aren’t reading and they aren’t interested in books,” she says, “but they love books. They’re so excited to get them.”

And they need them. One young boy, who was being raised by his grandmother while his parents were imprisoned, requested books on Martin Luther King. His grandmother later told Constantino that the books were keeping him off the streets. “Now he’s up in his bed reading,” the grandmother told her. “He’s up all night. Reading and reading.”

So Constantino asked the little boy what he liked about the books. “He looked up at me and said, ‘Oh, Miss Becky, they take me to a world I’ve never known,” she says.

“It’s the best thing anyone’s ever said to me.”

Are they on? Are they off? What does their future hold?

Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth aren’t saying much publicly about the state of their relationship, although rumors of a split have been circulating for weeks – fueled in particular by a photo of Cyrus, 20, without her engagement ring.

Now a source tells PEOPLE that based on her demeanor lately the pair appear to have “split for now.”

In recent days Cyrus, who’s been lying low, “seems exhausted,” adds the source. But she’s not given up on the idea of a reconciliation.

“She has no plans to see Liam but seems to be clinging to hope that they will get back together,” says the source. “Miley hasn’t canceled the wedding.”

Hemsworth, 23, meanwhile, has been spotted with friends this week in his native Australia.

However bleak things might seem, the couple do, of course, have options.

For the couple who have everything, now comes … a green light.

Renovations have been approved for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge‘s future grand country home – including measures to ensure greater privacy and expand accommodations, the local council confirms to PEOPLE.

Also in the works: construction of a new “garden room” at the magnificent Georgian mansion Anmer Hall, one of more than 100 properties on Queen Elizabeth’s Sandringham estate in north Norfolk – though the Palace has not officially confirmed the couple will take over Anmer Hall, which is currently being rented to tenants.

The approval of plans for the residence comes as the royal couple’s London home, Apartment 1a at Kensington Palace, undergoes a refurbishing into a modern family home.

William, meanwhile, is soon set to announce his plans for the next stage of his career. His choices include staying in the RAF Search and Rescue squadron; heading to another branch of the military; or undertaking royal or other duties.
