Joe Manganiello To Be The Next Superman?

joe manganiello Joe Manganiello To Be The Next Superman?

We don’t know if we can call him our favorite werewolf, because hello, Taylor Lautner? But this True Blood hottie comes pretty damn close to the top of our list. And if this news is correct then we’re going to be seeing a lot more of Joe Manganiello who is apparently in the running to become the next Superman.

It’s not hard to look at that body and imagine him as the Man of Steel, is it? The LA Times reports that his name supposedly keeps coming up in round table discussions about who to cast. This would be a massive break for Manganiello. The film is going to be directed by Zack Snyder (who made 300), and produced by Christopher Nolan. Of the rumors, Manganiello, while at the Producers Guild Awards, said, “I would be honored. I love Zack Snyder, I love Christopher Nolan.”

It’s not just his professional life that’s gunning ahead. It’s his personal life too. Manganiello proposed to his girlfriend Audra Marie late last year. So she’s the lucky lady who gets to see all of him, but we don’t mind seeing him in a skin-tight superhero suit. What do you think. Is Manganiello right for the part?

Smallville 8 p.m. (Ch. 56) Chloe returns from her mysterious disappearance, but rather than being welcomed back with open arms, her friends are wary of her presence and wonder if she can be trusted. This cold shoulder may have something to do with the flashbacks theyve been having of being held hostage by their blonde buddy. Dinah is convinced Chloe is a traitor, and Clark has his doubts. Only Oliver trusts her. But still, whats up with those flashbacks?

SpongeBob SquarePants 8 p.m. (NICK) Bikini Bottom is an undersea city with much folklore, and some of those tales are explored tonight in two new back-to-back episodes that probe the Legends of Bikini Bottom. These tales include making a sacrifice to appease a volcano; searching for a mythical drain on the ocean floor; getting a visit from a destructive beast; and having people and items disappear into a mysterious triangle protected by a mermaid (voice of Ginnifer Goodwin). No one ever said the (under)sea life is an easy life.

CHRISTOPHER: Playing with legends: Music and movies – Delaware County Daily Times

Ever since 2004, when the Ray Charles biopic, “Ray,” was a hit both at the box office and accompanying soundtrack on the music charts and it won a slew of awards, film companies have been scrambling to line up the next big one.

It’s the same old story, look at 3D or films based on comic books; once there’s success with it, the formula is repeated ad nauseam. “Walk the Line,” starring Joaquin Phoenix and based on the early life of Johnny Cash was next, but then it got pretty quiet on the silver screen. A lot of it has to do with clearing publishing rights, getting the cooperation of the artist’s estate then the normal find a director and a lead pain in the neck.

This week, London’s Daily Express reported that “Twilight” star Robert Pattinson was “obsessed” with taking on the role of folk singer Jeff Buckley, who tragically died at the age of 27 while recording the follow-up to his critically acclaimed debut, “Grace.” His main rivals are rumored to be James Franco, James Marsden and the probably too-old Johnny Depp.

Like so many other music biopics, Buckley’s is currently “in development,” with rumors that it could begin filming next summer.

Here are some others that are also said to be in the works:

Kurt Cobain

Interestingly enough, Pattinson has been the latest name bandied about to star as the grunge icon, and reportedly has been in serious talks with Cobain’s widow, Courtney Love, who is always up for making a quick buck on her dead husband’s name. She’s been trying to get this film, based on the Charles Cross biography “Heavier Than Heaven,” made for years. Ewan McGregor was attached for a good while according to Love, but then she changed her tune and said it was Ryan Gosling.

“Good Will Hunting” director Gus Van Sant took his own shot at the Cobain myth in 2005 with “Last Days.” The film’s lead isn’t named after the Nirvana frontman, but bears a resemblance physically and as a lost soul who has everyone in his orbit worrying as he’s gone missing, only to turn up dead in a greenhouse where he had committed suicide.

Janis Joplin

Axl Rose thinks this thing is taking too long to get done.

For an idea of just how long this project has been in the works, Melissa Etheridge was once a shoo-in for the part. Now it’s getting complicated, with two films in the works. That was a mess when Hollywood did it with the story of Olympic runner Steve Prefontaine, and the same thing will likely happen here too.

Amy Adams, recently in “The Fighter,” is said to be taking on the role in “The Gospel According to Janis.” Another one, titled “Piece of My Heart,” had Renee Zellweger attached, but seems to be in a state of limbo. Lili Taylor, Pink, Britney Spears, Zooey Deschanel and the late Brittany Murphy have all been reported as taking the role at one point or another. And like Cobain, Joplin has already had one film loosely based on her life, “The Rose,” which came out in 1979 and starred Bette Midler.

Jimi Hendrix

Eddie Murphy, Will Smith and Outkast’s Andre 3000 have all expressed interest at playing the influential guitarist. Recently, Legendary Pictures was all set to proceed with the biopic, complete with Paul Greengrass (“The Bourne Supremacy”) directing and Anthony Mackie (“The Hurt Locker”) starring. But this past December, it was killed by Experience Hendrix, which controls Jimi’s estate and refused to clear any music.

“Legendary proceeded without our permission, direction or involvement,” a statement read. “It didn’t ‘fall apart,’ it never was. When we do the Jimi Hendrix feature-film bio, we will be involved and in control from the beginning.”

Motley Crue

Arguably the most lewd, crude, alcohol and drug-fueled account of any rock group ever is “The Dirt,” published in 2001 and based on the Sunset Strip’s most notorious gang of wild boys. Studios immediately began salivating, and the movie looked to be on the fast track to theaters. A decade later, it’s like the greatest party that never took place.

Big-name actors like Christopher Walken and Ashton Kutcher have been attached, but nothing has come to pass. Reports had it being released in 2009 and the most recent have it scheduled for this year — but it’s not even in production yet, so that’s not going to happen. Bass player and Crue co-founder Nikki Sixx has been quoted as saying, “I’m in no rush to make the wrong movie.”

Miles Davis

Jazz fans got a shot of excitement this winter when “Hotel Rwanda” actor Don Cheadle told The Hollywood Reporter that he has finished a script about the innovative trumpeter and is trying to find backing to put the flick, which he’ll also star in, together.

Freddie Mercury

This one looks the closest out of all the films to actually getting done. Sacha Baron Cohen of “Bruno” and “Borat” fame is set to star, a first draft of the script has approved, most enthusiastically by Mercury’s bandmates in Queen. Guitarist Brian May had nothing but positive things to say in a statement posted on his website earlier this month.

“Work is fully under way,” he said. “(Screenwriter) Peter Morgan has delivered a first draft of the movie, which everyone is very excited about, and Sacha is chomping at the bit to get into the role in a way which would delight Freddie.”

A man, a mystery and MGM Grand – Las Vegas Review-Journal

A camera crew has been following a mystery man in a bad wig around the MGM Grand for a week.

Some of the hotel’s 9,000 employees have their suspicions. They’re getting a lot of hints to connect the dots to a reality show.

So far they’ve ruled out The Situation from “Jersey Shore.”

The guy in the wig and glasses has been filming what appears to be on-the-job-training scenarios.

He’s been in the casino, working the blackjack and roulette tables in uniform, at the front desk, working with security and hanging out with the staff at Studio 54.

The unkempt wig, which comes down to the top of his ears, isn’t fooling anyone, according to one spy.

“A tourist walked by and said, ‘nice rug,’ ” an employee said Thursday.

Someone overheard that the guy in disguise is staying at a nearby Super 8.

If the MGM Grand sports book were taking bets, smart money would be on Scott Sibella, the new president and COO of MGM Grand.

And the show?

Bet the mortgage, if you still have one, on CBS’ hit show “Undercover Boss,” which airs at 9 p.m. on Sundays (KLAS-TV, Channel 8).

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ALICE CLOS

Alice Clos, who just hit the big 1-0-1, knows how to live.

She celebrated her birthday Thursday at the Prestige Assisted Living at Mira Loma in Henderson with a joy ride and boy toys from the Chippendales.

Gaudin Porsche of Las Vegas dispatched a Porsche 911 Cabriolet to take her for a top-down ride.

Also boosting her pulse rate: Chippendale dancers Lind Walter and Johnny De Beer.

THE SCENE AND HEARD

Rubber-faced comedian Charlie Callas, a favorite of Johnny Carson and Frank Sinatra, died Thursday at a care center in Las Vegas. Callas, known for his zany facial expressions, was Carson’s guest dozens of times and often roasted Sinatra. Callas was 86.

Agassi Prep has been involved with Three Square since 2008. … Actor Jason Statham, arriving at Planet Hollywood Resort in a 1970 Jaguar on Wednesday for the Las Vegas premiere of “The Mechanic.” … On the red carpet, “Peepshow” star Holly Madison made her debut as a correspondent for “Extra.” … Monte Carlo headliner Frank Caliendo, making a guest appearance on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” on Wednesday. By coincidence, I happened to be in the audience, and Caliendo knocked it out of the park with his Leno impressions. Nobody’s done a better job of nailing Leno’s persona, and dozens of others, for that matter. “I was pretty stressed during makeup,” he said. “The chin went on a little crooked so the makeup artist had to pull a piece out and put some cotton balls in. We only had 15 minutes.” His Monte Carlo show, which was to end its 15-month run March 12, has been extended through April 30. He will do Super Bowl picks as two of his characters. … Comedian Gilbert Gottfried, dining with his wife on Tuesday at the Eiffel Tower Restaurant at Paris.
