Josh Duhamel: “I’m Totally Going To Be That Dad”

During a Monday appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Transformers: The Last Knight star Josh Duhamel opened up about family life with wife, Grammy Award-winning singer Fergie, and their 3-year-old son Axl.

“I think threes are a little bit more challenging than twos,” he said of parenting a preschooler. “He’s a good kid, but he’s all boy, man…He’s awesome.”

And he can’t wait to start coaching his son’s sports teams.

“I’m totally going to be that dad,” he shared. “I’ll be the dad on the sidelines coaching. You learn how to win and lose and be on a team. He doesn’t need to be a professional athlete, but he should learn how to be on a team and compete because that’s what the real world is about.”

It sounds like their adorable son has quite the imagination.

“He’s all about spooky stories, taking sticks from the park and turning them into stuff,” said the Safe Haven actor. “I mean, we literally have a pile of sticks at our house. We could have a giant bonfire at any moment. To him, they’re something. He doesn’t want to go anywhere without them because to him they’re either a sword or a magic wand or whatever.”

Since DeGeneres gave Duhamel, 44, a cane for his Dumb & Dumber costume when he came on the show, Axl has decided it’s his magic wand.

“He’s completely taken over,” the actor shared. “He’s all boy! I really don’t know what else to say.”

Parenting has been a steep learning curve for the A-listers.

“We make a lot of questionable parenting decisions, I think. I have no idea what I’m doing half the time,” he joked. “She’s definitely more evolved than I am and more patient. But I feel like, having a kid when I was 40-years-old is much different than having a kid at 22. I’m a little bit more mature than I was then. I’m just doing the best I can and trying not to screw him up for life.”
