Celebrities That Opted For a Home Birth to Deliver Their Babies

Women are choosing home birth over checking into the hospital more and more these days and a lot of celebrity mams are hopping on the bandwagon.

Recent celeb mamas include Stacy Keibler and James Van Der Beek’s wife Kimberly. Home birth is a growing choice for many women that find the experience more attractive. For one, they are able to be in the comfort of their own home and secondly are able to have a quiet and peaceful birthing experience away from the sterile atmosphere of a hospital.

Here are some celeb mamas that you may not have known delivered their babies in their very own home.

Alanis Morisette

The singer welcomed both of her children at home with her husband by her side. Morisette said after she gave birth to her son Ever in 2011, “I didn’t really even imagine myself having the birth experience at the hospital. My home is like my little sanctuary,” she told Today in 2013. The 44-year-old musician welcomed her daughter Onyx in 2017 the same way, from the comfort of her home.

Alyson Hannigan

The How I Met Your Mother alum went the homebirth route when she delivered her two daughters Satyana and Keeva. The 44-year-old actress told Woman’s Day in 2009, “I’ve never liked hospitals. I wanted to be comfortable as possible when I gave birth, and there’s no place I’m more comfortable than my own home. I wanted a comforting and positive environment. In my opinion, hospitals are for sick people.”

The supermodel got in touch with her inner superpowers when she delivered her firstborn Benjamin. Gisele, 37, gave birth in her and husband Tom Brady’s hot tub in their Boston penthouse in 2009. Bundchen revealed to Brazil’s Globo TV in 2010 of the experience, “I did yoga and meditation, so I managed to have a very tranquil birth at home. I didn’t hurt in the slightest. The whole time my mind was focused in each contraction on the thought ‘My baby is closer to coming out.’”

Pamela Anderson

The Baywatch beauty gave birth to her son Brandon in 1996 and Dylan in 1997 from home. The 50-year-old Playmate told Larry King in an interview in 2002, “I gave birth at home both times, natural, and with a midwife, in water, with nothing. Not even Tylenol.”

Rachel Bilson Talks About Co-Parenting With Ex Hayden Christensen

Rachel Bilson is a newly single mother to her 3 ½ and year-old daughter Briar Rose. Bilson and her daughter’s father actor Hayden Christensen recently broke off their 10-year relationship and the actress told People exclusively that “we’re still kind of trying to figure it out,” when it comes to co-parenting Briar.

Among her busy schedule of being a mom, the 36-year-old actress has a new gig on ABC’s Take Two as a TV-star turned private investigator. Her work has taken Bilson to Vancouver where the show films and being a single mom means Rachel needs help and leans on her mom to help out when she’s working.

Bilson opened up about the challenges that come with a newly co-parenting situation, one that she and Christensen, 37, are still working the kinks out. “It’s a tricky one. And I don’t know that there is a right way, necessarily.”

The O.C. alum goes on to tell how she and her ex Hayden explain to their daughter their new family dynamics. “We say Mommy has a house and Daddy has a house but she’s pretty young to have an in-depth conversation. Most important for me is that Briar is okay and secure and stable. No matter what I’m dealing with or how much it hurts or how much anger there is, it’s just about her.”

Bilson has her mom Janice Stango to help guide her through this tricky time, as Rachel was raised in a divorced household herself. “My mom was a great mom. My parents went through a divorce and she showed me nothing but love so I was totally secure and okay when she did.”

She went on to say, “Briar, needs to feel loved from the people she loves the most. She has that love that is unconditional so I think we’re doing okay.”

The newly single mom is enjoying the simple moments she shares with her daughter. Bilson shared that she and Briar enjoy baking cookies and muffins and singing along to their favorite Disney songs.

“I’m doing everything right now,” says Bilson. “I’m working and I have my girl and I have this cool house with the bunk beds that she really wants. I don’t really know what’s next, but I’m enjoying the moment.”
