Reese Witherspoon’s Mom Sues Reese Witherspoon’s Dad For Bigamy

Reese Witherspoon's Dad Sued For Bigamy By Her MomReese Witherspoon always seemed a little too normal and level-headed to be a celebrity, didn’t she? She’s so perky and controlled. Mix in a dose of parental bigamy, however, and you realize that Reese is just like the rest of us: caught in the web of some crazy family drama. According to E! Online, Reese’s mother Betty Witherspoon is filing a lawsuit against husband John Witherspoon for marrying second wife Tricianne Taylor this past January. The problem? Despite separating in 1996, Mammy and Pappy Witherspoon are still very much a legally wedded couple. As if Thanksgiving wasn’t awkward enough already. Now imagine if your dad had sister wives!

As if that wasn’t enough, Reese’s mom is concerned that John Witherspoon is suffering from dementia and is being manipulated by his new wife for her own personal gain. “When I confronted my husband, he said he didn’t know who Tricianne Taylor was and that he did not remember getting married,” Betty claimed in the suit. “I also fear for my husband’s personal safety and the safety of my family.” Good god. What would you even do in this scenario? Cry in the car while pretending to be running to the store for cranberry sauce? We’re clearly still stuck on the family holidays aspect. Once your in-laws found out about this, you would never hear the end of it!

Wife Finds Husband 9 Years After He Disappeared – Married to Another Woman

When Karen Marx’s husband disappeared in 2005, she thought she might never see him again.

Adam L. Marx left no note, never called and gave no explanation – he just vanished, reports USA Today.

For years, Karen searched for her husband. And then one day, nearly a decade later, she found him – married to another woman.

“I just thought, ‘How could he get married again?’ ” Karen said. “Am I dead? What did he do with my identity?”

She shouldn’t have been surprised, though: It wasn’t the first time Adam had left a woman while still married. It wasn’t even the first time he’d left Karen.

Karen met Adam when he was still married to another woman.

“I figured, ‘He’s going to get divorced, and this means he really wants to be with me and the kids,’ ” she said. “We’ll be one big, happy family.”

Adam did eventually divorce his first wife. He married Karen a year later – on Valentine’s Day.

But shortly after, he disappeared. That time, he left a note.

“The first time he left me, it was like somebody reached into my chest and ripped my heart out of me,” Karen said. “He basically told me it was all my fault and he couldn’t handle my kids.”

Adam came home a few months later, in time for Karen’s Christmas bonus.

“My ultimatum was, ‘If you ever do this to me again, I won’t take you back,’ ” she said. “I did it once. I won’t do it twice.”

But things soured once again, and Karen stayed true to her promise. Adam packed his things and left, leaving his wife to deal with the debt he’d racked up.

“I was trying to start a cleaning business, and after he left me, that totally ruined everything,” she said.

She didn’t hear from him for nine years, other than seeing him once in a Kmart parking lot, where she asked him for a divorce. He said he’d call her, but never did.

Needless to say, it was a bit of a shock to find out he was married.

“He told people it was his first marriage,” she said. “I think people need to start doing their job and doing it thoroughly, especially when it comes to something like this.”

Adam now faces charges of bigamy, fraud and making a false statement on a marriage license, according to USA Today.

For her part, Karen plans to file for divorce. And unlike her husband, she won’t date (or marry) anyone until it’s final.

“I consider myself married,” she said. “I thought when you married someone, you married him for life, through sickness and health.”

Reese Witherspoon: Her Boozing Explained

Reese Witherspoon: Her Boozing Explained

REESE Witherspoon‘s boozing has been explained!

The actress apparently started drinking to cope with the stress of her parents’ bitter battle in divorce court last year, which included charges that her dad was a bigamist.

“Reese struggled with the vicious family feud between her mother and father throughout 2012,” a source said.

“Her mother was accusing her father of bigamy and it sent Reese into a tailspin.

“Reese feels she has the weight of the world on her shoulders, and she started drinking alcohol  as a release.”

John and Betty Witherspoon separated in 1996, but never officially divorced. In January 2012, John married Tricianne Taylor, then claimed he couldn’t remember tying the knot.

Betty believed her then-70-year-old husband was suffering from early onset dementia and that the marriage was a plot by his new bride to get in his will.

Reese and husband Jim Toth attended an emergency hearing at a Tennessee court to decide whether her father should be placed in a conservatorship, which means he would be deemed legally unable to take care of himself.

Reese and Jim, 42, were in Georgia in April while the actress was filming The Good Lie. At 12:40 a.m. on the 19th, Officer J. Pyland noticed the couple’s rented vehicle weaving across the marked lanes of Peachtree Road. After pulling them over, Pyland says Reese, 37, disobeyed orders to stay in the car while he performed a field sobriety test on Jim.

After she refused to return to the vehicle, she was handcuffed and arrested. She then said: “Do you know my name? You’re about to find out who I am.”

Reese issued a public apology the following day.

Reese Witherspoon's Family Weekend

Expectant mama Reese Witherspoon was spotted cheering on her son Deacon, 8, at his flag football game in Brentwood, Calif. on Saturday (May 19). The Oscar-winner, who was joined by husband Jim Toth, looked casual chic in a blue mini maternity dress, flip flops and a ponytail.

Later that same day, Reese was seen on a family hike in the Santa Monica hills with Deacon, her 12-year-old daughter Ava and her father John. Reese was recently in Nashville supporting her mother Betty who has filed papers against the actress’ father, accusing him of bigamy.

Betty is seeking to have his new marriage annulled. She says John can’t be married to Tricianne Taylor — a woman he appeared with in a wedding announcement in a local newspaper last month — because he is still married to her.

In her lawsuit, Betty said she still loves her husband and does not want a divorce. The lawsuit is filed against both her husband and Taylor. She described her husband as troubled, having battled with alcohol, hoarding and overspending. He owns at least five motorcycles, five boats and recently bought a Cadillac.
