If we didn’t tell you these photos were from the past week, you might think you had gotten in to a time machine that had traveled back to 2008. And who could blame you? The huge sunglasses, long blonde hair, thigh-high boots and oversized handbags are all Jessica Simpson staples from her pre-baby days.
But in fact, you’re looking at very recent photos of the star, who has not only returned to her favorite skinny jeans, she’s also returned to her favorite pre-baby look. We marveled at these photos of the star wearing ponchos, leather pants, fuzzy jackets over plunging tees, wide-legged trousers and patterned leggings, all accompanied by a very expensive, very large handbag.
We totally relate to Simpson’s excitement to return to a look that she loved before spending the past few years in maternity clothes. We also think this is a look that really works for her — it’s sort of a glam jet-setting power lady thing that jibes well with her bombshell demeanor. But we also think it would be fun for her to mix it up a bit, by adding in a few more modern pieces, like fitted jeans, a varsity jacket or Wayfarer-type shades. Even a haircut with a bit more movement would be an interesting development.
What do you think of Simpson’s style? Is it a little too retro for you, or “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it?”
After having two children in not even two years, Jessica Simpson says she is back to her pre-pregnancy weight thanks to Weight Watchers and chasing children.
“With both kids I’m running up and down my stairs a million times,” Simpson, 33, told USA Today. “Kids can keep your metabolism going.”
Simpson has two children with former NFL tight end and fiancé Eric Johnson: a daughter, Maxwell, born May 1, 2012, and a son, Ace, born June 30, 2013.
“Eric and I go on walks together,” she said. “I try and walk about four miles a day consistently. It makes me feel better.”
As does Weight Watchers. Simpson said she has lost more than 50 pounds after Maxwell was born, and she “jumped back on Weight Watchers” after her doctor gave her the okay following Ace’s birth.
The actress and fashion mogul, who admits she is not “good at chopping” vegetables, has someone help prepare family meals, and she also works out with personal trainer and PEOPLE.com blogger Harley Pasternak four days a week for nearly an hour.
But perhaps Simpson’s favorite exercise? Doing somersaults in the backyard with Maxwell.
“Every day we don’t know what’s going to happen,” Simpson said about her young family. “They definitely keep our lives busy but full of smiles. We laugh a lot.”
Which isn’t always easy, considering the constant media attention on her weight.
“It does get old having people harping on how much you weigh or your body after pregnancy,” said Simpson. “People are going to pick me apart no matter what I do. I’m always going to have critics.”
Simpson told USA Today that she was on a mission “to be the best version of myself. I want to be a great mom and a great example to my kids.”
Simpson said that she and Johnson are currently planning their wedding and that she has been “pulling all kinds of sketches for dresses and colors.”
As for the possibility of expanding the family after the wedding: “I can’t even think about being pregnant again,” Simpson said, before quickly adding, “I would never say never.”
The engaged couple have welcomed their second child, a boy named Ace Knute Johnson, Us Weekly reports. Baby Ace was born in Los Angeles via scheduled C-section on Sunday, June 30, Jessica’s rep adds.
“Ace Knute (pronounced Ka-nute) Johnson has arrived! Mom and baby are doing great,” her rep tells the mag. “Jessica, Eric and Maxwell are thrilled to welcome the new addition to their family.”
The Fashion Star mentor, 32, and Johnson, 33, are already parents to daughter Maxwell, nearly 14 months.
In February, reports swirled that the couple planned to call their son Ace. (Ace’s middle name honors dad Eric’s Swedish paternal grandfather, Knute Johnson.)
In true Jessica style, the singer-turned-entrepreneur accidentally spilled the beans on her baby’s gender. “The crazy thing is I never knew a wiener could make me nauseous,” she joked, and added, “Well, I guess I just told the world that I’m having a boy!”
