Another baby on the approach for Ne-Yo — he and Monyetta Shaw are awaiting their second child together this fall.
“[Fatherhood] has been a ride, but I’m amatory every notation of it,” says the singer-songwriter, 31, who’s already father to daughter Madilyn Grace, 10 months.
In his strike strain “Miss Independent,” Ne-Yo makes it transparent that a lady must be able to mount on her own, so it only makes clarity that his little lady would be her own person.
“[Maddie]‘s been perplexing to travel since she was dual months old,” he tells PEOPLE at his annual Compound Foundation benefit, reason Wednesday in Denise Rich’s Manhattan home.
“She’ll squeeze your hands and lift herself adult and do a little stagger dance. She likes scooting along the wall. She moves unequivocally fast.”
Independence doesn’t come but a cost, however.
“She definitely knows her value — which is a beautiful thing. That’s something I’ve attempted to teach in her from day one: know that you are a Godsend,” explains Ne-Yo. “You’re an comprehensive angel and people are ostensible to provide you that way. She’s intensely diva even at 10 months.”
What are Maddie’s diva traits? “She’s a growler right now,” he says. “She’ll only let you reason her a certain way.”
And nonetheless she loves his music, the RB crooner admits he takes a behind chair when it comes to Disney’s categorical man.
“Daddy loses out to Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. She loves the ‘Hot Dog!’ strain [by They Might Be Giants]. She knows dual words: ‘Dada’ and ‘hot dog.’”
