UPDATE 6:47PM- COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio State coach Jim Tressel will be suspended for two games for violating NCAA rules.
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio State football coach Jim Tressel may be in trouble. The school has called for a news conference early this evening involving Tressel, athletic director Gene Smith and school president E. Gordon Gee.
The news conference was set up a day after Yahoo! Sports reported that Tressel knew of allegations of improper benefits to quarterback Terrelle Pryor and others.
A sign that this may not just be a minor news conference is that athletic director Smith was called back from New York where he’s serving as chairman of the NCAA’s Division I men’s basketball committee.
In its report, Yahoo! Sports reported that Tressel knew of the allegations as early as April 2010 — at least seven months before the university found out.
Tressel is 106-and-22 in his 10 years as coach of the Buckeyes.
