This Tuesday (December 13) don’t miss Lifetime’s newest series, America’s Supernanny, starring childcare expert Deborah Tillman. This episode features a defeated mom and dad out of Danville, NH who have checked out, leaving 9-year-old Dillon in charge of his three younger sibling: MacKenna, 1, Cameron, 3, and Ayla, 4. The Dentons struggled with conflicting schedules that led to bad communication, a nightmarish bedtime, and a clingy baby that won’t take no for an answer.

The Virginia-based wife, mother and author, who boasts more than 19 years experience in early childhood education opens up to Celebrity Baby Scoop about working with the Denton family.

CBS: Tell us about working with the Denton family. When you saw them, they were on the verge of divorce, leaving their 9-year-old son Dillon in charge of younger siblings. Where did you begin with this family? What were some of the emergency/immediate skills you taught them? What were some long-term goals and strategies that you helped them with? Is there hope for the Denton family?

DT: “The Denton family had several issues I needed to tackle. They were on the verge of a divorce. The parent’s did not communicate or support each other at all. They played the “blame” game. There was no affection or intimacy in their marriage – they barely co-existed.

With respect to the children, there were no rules or discipline in place. Dillon watched TV all of the time and played inappropriate video games. He hit, kicked and spat on his sisters Ayla and Cameron.

The house was a mess with writing on the wall, broken banisters and a basement “playroom” that was not fit for an animal and the children were expected to have fun in. The dog pooped on the floor and the smell was ever so present.

Other issues were the Denton’s one year old daughter who was unbelievably clingy and mom couldn’t get anything done because she never put her down.

Techniques:

Since the parent’s relationship was so broken, I began working with them both. I needed them to be accountable and responsible so I put in place parent house rules that they wrote and vowed to remain faithful to.

The immediate tool I taught them was the sensitivity technique. Some of the long-term goals and strategies that I helped them work with was the clean up/organization technique to get the “playroom” looking and smelling like a place where children could go and have fun. I also made the parents throw away the inappropriate video games and take Dillon’s TV out of his room. I put in place a naptime and bedtime strategy for the kids and a self–reflection technique for Dillon and his dad.

There is always hope and the Denton family is no exception. They worked hard but they are not out of the woods yet. I am pleased that they were both willing give of themselves and to keep their marriage and family together by making it a number one priority.”

Selma Blair toted her tot Arthur Saint in the baby carrier yesterday as she took a trip to Cross Creek Mall in Malibu, California (December 11). It seems the mall was a celebrity hot spot yesterday – we spotted Pink and baby Willow there as well!

After they were finished running their errands the pair, along with dad Jason Bleick, headed to the playground for some fun.

Arthur isn’t quite 5 months old, but is he already on the move? The Cruel Intentions star recently took to Twitter to write, “Starting to crawl has turned into crawling. Can’t find a pen to write it down so this will do as a reminder!!”

While Hollywood accountants were having heart attacks over the worst box office weekend in years, movie critics all over the country were doing their best to make sure the year’s best films get their due — if not in cash, then at least with a little extra buzz leading up to the Oscars. The American Film Institute, the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, the New York Film Critics Online, the Boston Society of Film Critics and the San Francisco Film Critics Circle made their picks, adding to what we’ve already heard from the National Board of Review, the New York Film Critics Circle and the Independent Spirit Awards nominations. Here’s whose looking good so far:

Tree of Life, which was tailor-made for critics and film geeks, was named a top 10 film by AFI and the NYFCO; star Jessica Chastain was named Breakthrough Performer by the latter and Best Supporting Actress by the LAFCA (for Tree and five other films); NYCFO, LAFCA and SFFCC all named Terrence Malick Best Director; and cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki earned Best Cinematography from those three and the BSFC.

Bridesmaids, which isn’t likely to earn any Oscar nods but will probably earn a few Golden Globe nominations, was named an AFI top 10 (Melissa McCarthy and the whole ensemble cast were also recognized by the NYCFO and the BSFC).

The Descendants is still holding onto its early lead in the race, appearing in two top 10 lists, winning Best Picture from the LAFCA, and getting Best Adapted Screenplay from the NYFCO. And because The Artist‘s foreign status made it ineligible for the AFI list, they gave it a special award, and the silent film was named Best Picture by the BSFC and the NYCFO.

Drive co-star Albert Brooks is looking like a contender in the Supporting Actor category, with wins from the NYFCO, SFFCC and BSFC. The actor category is still anyone’s guess, as Michael Shannon (Take Shelter), Michael Fassbender (like, everything), Gary Oldman (Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy) and Brad Pitt (Moneyball) each had wins in this batch. Unshockingly, Meryl Streep (The Iron Lady), Tilda Swinton (We Need to Talk About Kevin) and Michelle Williams (My Week With Marilyn) are looking strong in the actress category, with Korean actress Yun Jung-hee (Poetry) getting a surprise win from the L.A. critics.

Katy Perry’s SNL Costumes: Which Was The Silliest?

2a25katyfeatured Katy Perry’s SNL Costumes: Which Was The Silliest?
Katy Perry, like so many of her pop peers, often tries her darndest to look like a cartoon character onstage and at awards shows and the like. So we were quite curious to see what she’d wear for her hosting gig on Saturday Night Live, where the costumes usually range from dowdy to goofy to freakish. The result? Well, nothing they put her in was quite as flattering as her own typical style choice. And we’re glad of that. We don’t tune in on Saturday nights (or, well, flip on the TiVo on Sunday mornings) to see pretty. But just because we like making everything into a competition, we decided to ask you: Which of Katy’s SNL outfits was the absolute silliest? (Oh, and PS. We left out her Pippa costume as it was neither silly nor cute.)

Here’s a little gallery before you vote:
