New York Fashion Week: What’s In It For The Celebs?

This was my first year ever actually attending New York Fashion Week, and though I only attended a couple of shows (little obstacles like Whitney Houston and the Grammys), it was exhausting! I mean, looking at the fashion is great fun, but there’s a lot of shuffling around to and from the venues, wondering where you’re supposed to be, shoving yourself between people’s outlandish fur coats and giant bags, and worrying that someone who matters will think you’re wearing something hideous. That may just be my own neurosis. Anyway, for the fashion editors, photographers, models, designers and millions of employees who make their shows happen (the ironing, the lint-rolling, the getting models water while they’re getting their makeup done, the escorting of clueless bloggers through the backstage area), Fashion Week is a lot of work. But all so many people (us) seem to care about is which actors and reality TV stars are sitting in the front row. Oh well. Anyway, when I went to the Alice + Olivia presentation on Monday night, I asked a few celebrities what they got out of going to the shows.

Ahna O’Reilly, who’s been on all sorts of red carpets this year after co-starring in The Help, was enjoying her first ever Fashion Week. “If I could wear any of the clothes that I’ve seen today I would be a lucky girl,” she said, wide-eyed. “Before today, my experience with fashion was Project Runway, so I kind of feel like I am living my fantasy.”

Kristin Chenoweth
and Jennifer Aspen, who star in the upcoming comedy GCB together, have been photographed at practically every single show this week. And they had a very good reason: “You have to understand something: We are in love,” Aspen said. “We are it’s a little weird,” Chenoweth agreed.

“Our show has so much to do with great fashion and we couldn’t wait for the opportunity to come and see great designers to see how they could fit into our show … and our lives,” Aspen continued. “But we’re really enjoying the work that goes into the clothes, the tailoring and the artistry of it. And each other.”

Serious admiration of artistry aside, the friends seemed to be in a mischievous mood, too. “I told [Kristin], ‘You know what I’m going to do at the show tonight? I’m just going to stand with the models and [pose]. She said she’d pay me $500 if I do it,” Aspen said.

“Best money I ever spent,” Chenoweth said.

I didn’t see Aspen get onstage, but I did stick around to watch the models stand painfully still on their platform, as all the guests milled around sipping cocktails and eating ice cream bars. Oh, yeah, free ice cream and vodka! That is enough to get me to attend any event, too.

Kelly Rutherford, who plays the uber-stylish Lily Van Der Woodsen on Gossip Girl, says the shows are her chance to get out of the house for a minute. “This is my time out, and then I go home and I’m a mom,” she told me, and since she doesn’t have her own stylist, she does actually pay attention to what she sees. “I go to maybe four or five shows, sometimes less. … I go to the [designers] that I really like them as people too.”

But she’s not all about dressing herself. “I’m obsessed with shopping for my kids. Every time they go with their dad, I shop for them. I don’t need a therapist to tell me what’s going on there!”

Lil Wayne Proposes…That His Girlfriend Be His Valentine?

So let us get this straight: Lil Wayne tweets “she said yes!” on Valentine’s Day, then has the cojones tan grandes to come back the next day and tell us we’re out of minds for assuming he got engaged to girlfriend Dhea? As one wise woman once said, something in the milk ain’t clean. “Ohhhhhhh now I see why! I meant “she said yes” to being my valentine!!! Hahahahahahaha! Y’all crazy!,” Lil Wayne tweeted this afternoon after fans started sending him congratulations. Sometimes we wonder if we’re crazy, Weezy. Now is not one of those times.

Making the whole story even odder, TMZ claims that Lil Wayne and his lady friend were spotted out at Miami restaurant Barton G last night, where the rapper asked that a yellow diamond ring be hidden in his date’s sundae. Moments later, Wayne proclaimed out loud to the restaurant, “She said yes!,” which seems like something someone might do when they get engaged. So either Weezy intentionally gave his girlfriend a very public faux proposal for Valentine’s Day…or someone is about to get a dozen roses and a heart-shaped vase hurled through his patio window. Either way, we hope Weezy keeps tweeting the (constantly changing) deets!

Kim Kardashian Graces March Cover Of Allure Magazine

Sexy socialite Kim Kardashian graces the March cover of Allure with her signature smoky eyes, long lashes and layers of lip gloss. In an accompanying interview, the reality TV star opens up about her thoughts on having children, being a surrogate for her sister, and watching her 72 day marriage to NBA athlete Kris Humphries fall apart in front of the cameras.

On wanting children: “Do I want kids of my own? Absolutely. But I don’t know if that’s what’s meant for me. Maybe I’ll just work, work, work, and not think about it.”

On being a surrogate for her sister: “Khloé joked with me and said, ‘Will you be my surrogate?’ I said, ‘I think I have a couple more years when I just want my body to myself. At 35, I promise I’ll consider it.”

On watching her marriage crumble on national television: “Is it tough to watch [the show]? Yeah. Tough to see an unhappy time in your life. Do I think there are more haters than before? Not really. But I think this has given them a platform to have a louder voice. Will I be more private of a person? Am I more guarded? Absolutely. But, also, I’m a firm believer that my show is who I am.”

Debra Messing Talks Son, Singing & Smash

Debra Messing Talks Son, Singing & Smash

She won our hearts when she played quirky and neurotic interior decorator Grace Adler on Will & Grace but Debra Messing has definitely upped her ante in NBC’s new musical drama Smash, a show that revolves around a group of characters who come together to put on a Broadway musical based on the life of Marilyn Monroe. Debra recently opened up about her son Roman and on her desire to sing on the show.

Debra – who plays songwriter/lyricist Julia Houston on the show – admits that although her 7-year-old son is demonstrating some acting talent, she doesn’t exactly want him to follow in her footsteps.

“He was Peter Pan last week at school,” the Lucky You actress tells Breezy Mama. “It was terrifying for me. And he was brilliant.”

“I told him when he was about two weeks old that I’d already decided that he was going to be an architect,” she adds. “But that’s fine for now… it’s a hobby, but it’s not what Mama chose for him though.”

As far as her love of singing, Debra says she wouldn’t mind belting out a few more tunes on the set of Smash.

“I’ve already shot a song,” the star reveals. “All I can say is I play the lyricist, so the context and the tone of the singing is very different but they have incorporated song into the very dramatic arc of my character in a way that I think is pretty clever.”

“I would love [to continue singing on the show],” she adds. “Are you kidding? The more the merrier.”
