Ashley Greene: How I’m Getting Through ‘A Rough Few Months’

05/15/2013 at 04:20 PM EDT

Two months after losing her beloved fox terrier in an apartment fire, Twilight‘s Ashley Greene has found a surefire way to move forward with her loss: shifting her focus to helping others.

“Obviously, I’ve had a rough few months, but I’m doing okay,” she tells PEOPLE. “I’m exploring new opportunities, and I try to participate in charity events as much as possible.”

“It’s very important to me to focus on others, not just myself. You look at children with cancer and you think, ‘Wow, it really puts my own problems into perspective.’ Not to say that what we all go through isn’t important, but there are people who have much greater problems that they deal with every day.”

Greene caught up with PEOPLE backstage at the Runway to Hope Spring Fashion Soiree on Saturday.

The event, founded by CNN analyst Mark NeJame and his wife Josie, raised more than $700,000 for pediatric cancer research. Greene and Olympic medalist Gabby Douglas emceed a fashion show and chatted with the runway models – all pediatric cancer patients.

“The numbers are just staggering. More than 12,000 children are diagnosed with cancer every year,” says the actress. “I definitely wanted to lend my name to something like this.”

Next up for Greene: a role in the upcoming drama CBGB. One thing you won’t see? The actress playing a vampire anytime soon. “If I’ve been getting vampire offers, my management hasn’t been sending them to me,” she says with a laugh. “We agreed that, unless a vampire role is spectacular, I just can’t do it.”

As for her Twilight costars, Greene says they mainly bump into each other on red carpets. “I still try to keep up with everyone, but we don’t see each other as much as we’d like to. And then there’s always Skype! I chatted with Kellan Lutz the other day and he was in Bulgaria!”

Catherine Zeta-Jones is returning to treatment for her bipolar II disorder.

“Catherine has proactively checked into a health care facility,” her rep, Cece Yorke, tells PEOPLE. “Previously Catherine has said that she is committed to periodic care in order to manage her health in an optimum manner.”

Meanwhile, a source tells PEOPLE that Zeta-Jones was planning to return to treatment as a way for doctors to monitor her medication. “There was no big problem,” says a friend. “This was just a good time to do it. She is in between projects. This has always been part of the plan. She would manage her health. She is vigilant about it.”

In 2011, the actress completed a stint in a Connecticut mental-health facility for the disorder, which can cause a cycle of high and low moods, often with episodes of depression.

“This is a disorder that affects millions of people and I am one of them,” Zeta-Jones, 43, told PEOPLE at the time. “If my revelation of having bipolar II has encouraged one person to seek help, then it is worth it. There is no need to suffer silently and there is no shame in seeking help.”

Nothing seemed amiss a week ago when Zeta-Jones and husband Michael Douglas walked the carpet at the Film Society of Lincoln Center’s 40th Annual Chaplin Award Gala honoring Barbra Streisand. When asked if they were enjoying a perfect date night, he smiled and responded, “Oh yes. Yes, this is pretty cool.”

On Saturday, Douglas stepped out alone at the White House Correspondents Dinner.

Next up for Zeta-Jones is the movie Reds 2, out July 19, costarring Bruce Willis and Anthony Hopkins. Douglas is headed to Cannes in a few weeks for his upcoming HBO biopic Behind the Candelabra, costarring Matt Damon.

TMZ first reported Zeta-Jones’s return to treatment, quoting a source who said, “It’s maintenance.”

Matt Damon and Wife Renew Wedding Vows

04/13/2013 at 08:55 PM EDT

Matt Damon and his wife Luciana renewed their wedding vows on the Caribbean island of St. Lucia Saturday, PEOPLE confirms.

The couple exchanged vows as their guests, including their four daughters and actors Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner, as well as Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones, looked on.

Local reports indicate Damon, 42, spent nearly $1 million to rent out the entire Sugar Beach resort to accommodate his family and guests for the lavish festivities.

Damon met his wife in a Miami bar in 2003 when he was shooting the film Stuck on You and she was tending bar. The couple married two years later in a civil ceremony in New York City but never had a larger wedding celebration.

Earlier Saturday, the actor appeared relaxed and happy as he paddle boarded in the crystalline blue waters near the resort.

Michael Douglas Feels Guilty About Dead Brother

Michael Douglas Feels Guilty About Dead Brother

0de7doug stry 21 Michael Douglas Feels Guilty About Dead BrotherMICHAEL Douglas is feeling bad!

The actor, 68, is consumed with guilt over his gay half brother Eric, who was brutalized for years by their father Kirk and shunned by Michael because neither star could deal with his sexuality, according to the National Enquirer.

“Michael blames himself for not being there for Eric,” said a source. “But he didn’t have the time. He was too busy with his career and marriage – and he’s regretted it ever since.

“Michael is haunted by his brother’s death, always asking himself, ‘How could I have saved him?’

“That’s why he took the part of Liberace. He did it for Eric. It’s his way of making amends.

“Despite what Catherine may know about the Liberace movie project, Michael has kept hidden from her the true depths of despair he’s bottled up about his agony over Eric.

“She has no idea how tortured Michael still is over what Eric endured.

“Michael has never been willing to share this gay secret with Catherine. As a Douglas, he’s always kept the stiff upper lip and the family has never been good about admitting emotional weaknesses. She’ll be shocked when she finds out the extent of his grief.

“We all knew that Eric was gay from an early age because his behavior was very effeminate. Other kids picked on him, but he also baited people – particularly his dad Kirk, who he knew was ashamed of him.

“Kirk tried to ‘beat the gayness’ out of him. I’d hear Eric’s screams through the window, and I once walked inside and saw Kirk hitting Eric at the top of the stairs. We all knew what was going on, and I know Michael felt real bad about it. Along with other members of his family, he felt they didn’t do enough to help Eric.”
