We always knew Charlize Theron was a golden girl — and Dior has truly proven that with their dramatic, memorable commercials featuring the star wearing one stunning metallic gown after another in her J’Adore Dior spots. But this time around, they may have outdone themselves with the stunning gown she wears in her latest shoot. Get a peek at the making of the gown and catch an interview with the star all about the brand-new ad campaign, below!

For the latest entry in her Dior campaign lineup, Theron had to be sensual, sparkling and able to shimmy up a satin rope convincingly — so a flowy, backless design with dozens of glittering bugle beads was called for. Dior’s couturiers painstakingly applied them one by one, creating more of a scattered effect towards the hem, for a dress that fit Theron perfectly (and offset her still-growing-out pixie cut). From the sketch and the embellishment, below, to the finished product, above, was an impressive process that’s shown off to great effect in the commercial — and Theron talks about that craftsmanship in a behind-the-scenes interview.

“The dress this time — you can see that it’s part of the same family as the dresses we wore in the other campaigns for the last 10 years,” she says. “There was something about this dress that wasn’t structured to the body and yet had beautiful lines. There was something dancer-esque about it.”

The dress was made entirely by hand in Dior’s atelier in Paris. Over the course of 250 hours, couturiers crafted the gown for Theron out of 20 meters of chiffon, 20 yards of tulle and 4 meters of silk organza. Craftsmen spent 60 additional hours tracing gradients onto the dress to illustrate where the dress would go — and then another 750 hours sewing the beads on one by one to create the cascading effect that gives the dress so much movement.

And in addition to loving the gown, Theron was equally enamored of her creative collaborator on the campaign, photographer Jean-Baptiste Mondino. “Working with Mr. Mondino has been one of my favorite experiences that I’ve had in my life,” she says. “To have creativity there must be a tremendous amount of passion. And he is the embodiment of passion.”

See Keke Palmer’s Mega-Glam Emmys Gown Fitting & Guess What She’ll Wear Tonight!

Keke Palmer is having a huge year. She got her very own talk show, will soon star in Broadway’s Cinderella and she now has hit a true A-list milestone: She’s having a gown designed just for her to wear on the Emmys red carpet Monday night. Designer Rubin Singer sketched three beautiful gowns (see the sketches below) for Palmer to consider, then invited her to his studio to try them on and make the big decision. Check out the photos, below, then come back tonight for her big red carpet reveal — she’ll be wearing a gown that “makes me feel so glamorous,” she tells PEOPLE.

Palmer and Singer met for 20 minutes before getting down to business, trying on gowns that checked all her boxes for an Emmys dress. “I want it to be classic with a modern edge,” she says. “It is the Emmys so you want to be respectful, but I also want to show my playful side, so hopefully we have found just the right balance.”

And as you can imagine, the two had a blast playing with beautiful gowns. “I had a ball throughout, I loved trying on all those beautiful gowns and Rubin is so sweet. His whole vibe is great,” Palmer says. Echoes Singer, “Playing dress up with Keke was the most fun! She has such a wonderful, bubbly personality. Having not met before, we hit it off right away!”

Palmer is only 20, which means she’s still finding her fashion footing (with a little help from stylists Wayman Bannerman and Micah McDonald). “I do not have three words that describe my personal style because I feel like I am still evolving and learning more about fashion everyday,” she says when asked how to summarize her look. “As for my Emmy’s dress it is sultry, refined and elegant. To me those words fit the best!”

That’s not to say she didn’t have a tough choice between three gowns, which all “made me want to dance and move! They are elegant yet comfortable, which is a great combination that all woman love,” Palmer says. Singer loved them all too, but agreed with the final choice. “The dress I liked the best was the dress that Keke picked. It looked simply amazing on her. Collectively, we all knew it was the one,” says Singer. “[Finding the right dress] was a group effort. I designed the dresses and gave suggestions on fit, the stylists selected and presented the grouping of their favorite dresses and Keke made her choice. It was so easy working with Keke and her wonderful team.”

That’s not to say it was smooth sailing all the way through — Palmer got dissenting opinions from her stylists until she made her case: “Most of the time we agree, but for the Emmys dress we did not. So I stated my case as to why I loved this one particular dress and they said I was so passionate about it that I made them change their minds!”

While the finishing touches get put on the gown, Palmer remains cool and collected. “I can honestly say, No, I am not nervous. I have such a great team of people around me constantly making sure I have what I need,” she tells PEOPLE, adding with a laugh, “Of course, there is always the possibility of dress malfunctions. Once I was on a red carpet and the strap to my dress broke. That was crazy, but there are no straps on this dress so I should be good!”

That same laid-back policy applies to her day-of beauty prep team, whom she’s charging with making her look “as natural-looking as possible” with “fresh and clean” makeup and a “sleek and complementary” hairstyle. But you can count on her nails being funky: “I’m really into nail art so I have to do something cool with them,” she says. “Other than that, I am so blessed to have such a great hair and makeup team I just sit back and let them do their thing!”

See any gowns you love? Any guesses about the final look?

CITRUS SPLURGE

After drinking in Padma Lakshmi’s gorgeous orange strapless Monique Lhuillier gown, we’re ready to down a Tequila Sunset, an offshoot of the classic Tequila Sunrise. The late-in-the-day sip uses soda water tinted with red food coloring instead of Grenadine, the cherry-flavored syrup, which gives it a lighter, less-sweet taste that’s refreshing round the clock.

Fergie Loves Switching Up Son Axl’s Style

He may look just like dad Josh Duhamel, but Axl Jack seems to be getting his style sense from his fashion maven mama, Fergie.

The singer, who currently serves as global ambassador for the Avon Foundation for Women to help bring awareness to violence against women in celebration of International Women’s Day month, tells PEOPLE she loves to get creative with her 6-month-old baby boy’s wardrobe.

“[His style is] different on different days because Mommy dresses him,” shares Fergie, who partnered with Avon to launch the Justice Institute on Gender-Based Violence to address violence against women across the globe.

“Sometimes he’s a complete rocker, sometimes we go hip hop, sometimes we go athletic [and] sometimes he’ll wear some North Dakota-inspired clothes.”

Axl’s outfits may be “all over the place,” but there’s one thing that stays the same: each ensemble is accompanied by fabulous footwear.

“I love trying different sneakers on him. That’s always fun,” says the Black Eyed Peas frontwoman, who is working on a second solo album. “I love anything costumed, anything with a theme. I love mixing up his fashion from Chrome Hearts to Dsquared.”

Motherhood has also affected Fergie’s style too. According to the first-time mom, Axl — who is just learning how to sit up on his own — plays a big part in what accessories she decides to wear for the day.

“I know there are certain necklaces that I can’t wear when I have Axl with me. Some of my spiky jewelry is a no-no when it’s Axl time — save those for date night!” she explains.

“He likes to grab on to everything — including my hair, which I completely encouraged in the beginning. I loved when he touched it, he got so happy. I felt this bond with him as a mommy.”

She adds, “I think that a lot of feelings that you have as a mom, they’re so pure and loving. But I asked for it, so now he grabs it all the time!”

Having fun with fashion isn’t the only thing Fergie has been up to since welcoming her son. She’s also managed to rack up a “whole bag” of mommy must-haves, including diapers from good pal Jessica Alba‘s brand, The Honest Company.

“I feel like [she's] done a great job with that company,” Fergie says. “She sent me some [diapers] when he was born and I wrote her a thank you. But I’ve ordered more since she sent them to me because they’re great. I love her moisturizing cream as well.”
