Air travel in Sioux Falls is often slow to take off.
“Yes it’s convenient here but in terms of time, it’s probably worth your time to drive down to Omaha to save a couple hundred dollars,” said traveler Kristi Nelson.
“We drive to Omaha a lot to save $200, $300, $400 dollars a flight,” said Rick Martin, who is flying out of the Sioux Falls Regional Airport.
A quick trip to Indianapolis for Rick Martin comes at a high price.
“Bankruptcy. That’s what went through my head,” laughed Martin.
Martin searched the internet for a good deal but it was sticker shock he found instead.
“I had to pay a thousand dollars for a flight. Should be able to fly out of here for a third of that,” said Martin.
When Frontier fills one of the vacant spots at the Sioux Falls airport, many of the passengers are expecting lower prices, which means these lines could be filled quicker.
“Having more options is always a good thing, it gives you more choices about travel,” said Emily Glatt who is traveling to Arizona with her family.
When Frontier lands in Sioux Falls it plans on bringing rock bottom ticket prices too.
“There’s no reason the airlines have to charge as much. Other than they can and they don’t realize how much they are losing,” said Martin.
But with the promise of low fares, people may now forgo taking a trip out of town, just to catch a flight to their final destination.
Frontier flights will start taking off from the Sioux Falls Regional Airport in July.
