merican Idol Is Back: Why Will You Watch This Season?
Last year, all eyes were on Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler as they staid into their new roles as American Idol judges at the start of deteriorate 10. But as the show ramps adult Wednesday night (8 p.m. ET) with the judges’ row intact, all eyes this year should be on the talent – or miss thereof – as televised auditions begin.
But in an increasingly swarming genre, can one of TV’s maestro singing competitions still make honeyed song for viewers?
The judges clearly think so. In a new interview, Randy Jackson referred to Idol as the “Picasso” of singing shows, the strange that’s been widely imitated.
Yet Idol hasn’t constructed a true breakthrough luminary in a while – and it could use one in its conflict opposite pretender rivals like The Voice and Simon Cowell‘s The X Factor.
Of course, along with the gifted singers, there’s always the nonsensical ones who waylay the auditions with hilariously bad performances, forcing the judges to respond in the most tactful approach probable – or tumble detached in an blast of giggles.
