Chrissy Teigen Will Soon Use Remaining Frozen Embryo

Model Chrissy Teigen covers the November issue of InStyle and opens up about family life with husband, Grammy Award-winning singer John Legend, and their 17-month-old daughter Luna.

On her struggle with postpartum depression: “I thought I was just being a selfish a—hole. It wasn’t just a mental thing of, you know, ‘I’m sad.’ I actually couldn’t move. I have really good days and really bad days, and I don’t tend to talk about the really bad days. But I would hate for people to think those days didn’t exist.”

On her IVF journey, which started with about 20 embryos but was left with three: “The first little girl didn’t work, and then the second is Luna.” The third is the one they will transfer to her womb in the coming months.

On the secret to their happy marriage: “I’m much luckier to have John’s personality in my life than he is to have mine. He is insanely patient and such a dork, and he loves seeing me happy, even if that means watching The Real Housewives of Dallas with me for two and a half hours. I mean, I don’t care about half the s— he’s doing either. But there’s a balance. If he’s watching MSNBC and is excited about something, then I’ve got to be in that realm.”

John Legend Opens Up About Fertility Struggles

Grammy Award-winning singer John Legend opens up in the new issue of Cosmopolitan about family life with wife, Lip Sync Battle star Chrissy Teigen, and their 16-month-old daughter Luna.

On their struggles with fertility: “Having a baby is a big challenge for a couple, and going through that together strengthens your bond because if you make it through [having a child], you know you can make it through anything. I think it’s especially difficult when you can’t conceive naturally. You want to feel like everything’s working properly and want everything to be perfect, but sometimes it’s not. I wouldn’t say we can’t conceive naturally, but I would say that it’s enough of a challenge where it felt like we needed help. We’re lucky that we’re living in an age where we can conceive in other ways. [IVF] brought us Luna and hopefully it will bring us a few more awesome kids, too.”

On maintaining an open line of communication in their marriage: “There’s no problem with openness in our relationship. You know Chrissy. She doesn’t hold anything back! I’m quite reserved, but being with someone like her inspires me to be open about my emotions. She brings them out of me because she’s so open about hers.”

On Chrissy opening up about her struggle with alcohol: “We’re always honest with each other, so we discuss everything that’s on our minds. When she was thinking about how she wanted to drink less, we talked about it. I just want to support her. I want her to be happy and to live the fullest, most awesome life she can, and I want us to do it together. Whenever she sets her mind to anything, I always tell her, “I want to support you and help you do it.” ”

On being a man who’d rather commit to one woman than be a womanizer: “I don’t want to present myself as the “perfect spouse” and I don’t want to present our relationship as the “perfect relationship” because I don’t think anybody meets that definition. I think it’s too much pressure to put on anyone. However, I don’t mind being known as somebody who’s devoted to their wife. I am devoted to Chrissy. And when I write about [my commitment to her], it’s me being authentic. I think it should be cool to be a good partner, a good spouse, a good father, and/or a good parent. If I’m one of the people who helps make that cooler, I think that’s great.”

Chrissy Teigen: “I Was, Point Blank, Just Drinking Too Much”

Lip Sync Battle star Chrissy Teigen and daughter Luna, 16 months, are cuties on the couch in a new Instagram image. “Chilling with mom,” Teigen’s mother Vilailuck Teigen captioned the sweet snapshot.

The model, 31, recently opened up to Cosmopolitan about her struggle with alcohol.

The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue model and husband, Grammy Award-winning singer John Legend, are planning to add to their family, which has inspired her to focus on wellness.

“We’re going to try to have a child,” she shared. “This is for us to try to get in the zone of ‘let’s travel, let’s be away together, let’s see our closest friends,’ and then we’re going to have to do something super hard, which is the IVF process, all over again.”

Before their recent trip in Italy, Teigen attended a wellness retreat in Bali.

“I was, point blank, just drinking too much,” she shared. “I got used to being in hair and makeup and having a glass of wine. Then that glass of wine would carry over into me having one before the awards show. And then a bunch at the awards show. And then I felt bad for making kind of an ass of myself to people that I really respected. And that feeling, there’s just nothing like that. You feel horrible. It’s not a good look for me, for John, for anybody.”

She added: “Imagine everything we have. Everything is there, always. I don’t know how to go to an awards show and not drink.”

She has a history of alcohol abuse in her family, and admits she’s the type of person who “can’t just have one drink.” She is also taking medications for postpartum depression and anxiety, which “alcohol is like the least thing that helps.”

“Nobody really brought it up to me,” she said. “They just assumed that it was OK because I always felt OK the next morning. I knew in my heart it wasn’t right. It makes you very short with people. People think it’s cutesy and fun to go on these boozy brunches, but there’s more to it. I’ve never once been like, ‘I’m sure glad I had that boozy brunch!’”

During her time in Bali, Teigen abstained from alcohol and didn’t find herself missing it.

“It was really, really wonderful,” she said. “I would wake up feeling amazing. My skin felt amazing. I was just so happy.”
