Talking With Best Week Ever‘s Jared Logan About His New Comedy Central Special!

c277jaredlogan Talking With Best Week Ever‘s Jared Logan About His New Comedy Central Special!

Maybe the cast of Best Week Ever is out on summer vacation, but that doesn’t mean they’ve stopped pounding the pavements to make you laugh. The hilarious Jared Logan has a brand spanking new Comedy Central special, The Half Hour: Jared Logan, airing tonight at midnight! We got a chance to chat with the charming Mr. Logan about how he prepared for the special, his favorite parts about working on Best Week Ever, and where you can see him next.

VH1: When did you find out that you had gotten the special?

Jared Logan: I’m not sure exactly when I found out. I think it was October 2012 and of course I was thrilled. We filmed it in February 2013 in Boston at the Club Royale and I felt uniquely prepared because I had done warm up for all of the half hours the year before at the same place. So, I kind of knew the venue and I knew the routine, so for me it was like coming back to camp or something.

How do you pick and choose which jokes will go into a half hour special?

Well, something that helped me choose was that stuff that had been in my John Oliver Special in 2012 and stuff that had been in my Mash Up–I was on the program Mash Up in 2012-that stuff they didn’t want me to do and that makes sense to me and I can understand why. But right there I killed about…oh…twenty minutes of my material by saying I couldn’t do that stuff. Maybe a little less–a little less than twenty minutes. But luckily, you know, I work hard here in New York and all over all the time. So, I had thirty more minutes for them.

What is your favorite part about being on Best Week Ever?

Oh Gosh…

It’s the awkward question.

What’s my favorite part? There are so many good things. I’m trying to think of something that’s not cliche right now because I just want to say “Oh, the people!” I like the people. I like working with all the producers on the show.

They’re very nice people.*

I guess getting to be hateful about people from pop culture that I extremely dislike. Like, I really feel blessed that I get paid money to go on TV and just trash “the plastic wives.” I hope they see it and it makes them cry, but feel like they don’t care.

So, you’ve also worked on the past on Comedy Central’s Indecision Blog. So what was that like and how is it different doing those kind of segments versus a half hour special?

Well, they’re two very different things. The Indecision thing…you’ve got to have a lot of ability to improvise and you have to have an ability to talk to people. That’s mostly what we did. So we were out there just trying to get people to talk to us and not only trying to get people to talk to us, but trying to get people to talk to us about political beliefs, which as you can imagine, you can probably assume people are pretty on edge about that sometimes–especially close to an election. And they’re afraid Comedy Central’s going to make a fool out of them. So, we had to have a lot of charm and charisma–which I think are two words that mean the same thing.

Luckily, I had Jordan Carlos with me who took care of that end of it and I was just goofy and silly. He was the charming one.

We think you’re charming**.

Ohhhhh…thank you. Make sure to put that in the article.

Don’t worry. We will.

So where can your fans see you this summer now that Best Week Ever is on hiatus?

They can see me at Bonaroo coming up here in June. I’m about to go on a short little tour where I’ll be in Atlanta at the Atlanta Improv. I’ll be in Nashville at the High Watt. That’s also happening in June. Trying to get down south this summer. But if anyone ever wants to know where I’m at, they can check my twitter or my website, jaredlogan.com.

Because the show’s not on this week, if it were on, who would you vote for having the Best Week Ever?

Probably Mayor Bloomberg because that letter with the ricin didn’t make it all the way to him.

Comedy Central’s The Half Hour: Jared Logan premieres tonight at midnight! Check it out!
*No one asked us to say this. It’s true.
**No one asked us to say this either. It’s also true.

Factory Blast Kills Five to 15 in Texas

Breaking News

04/18/2013 at 06:40 AM EDT

Rescue workers in downtown West, about 20 miles north of Waco, Texas, searched rubble that witnesses compared to a war zone early Thursday for survivors of a fertilizer plant explosion that killed as many as 15 people and injured more than 160 others.

The blast left the factory a smoldering ruin, leveled homes and businesses for blocks in every direction, shook the ground with the strength of a small earthquake and could be heard dozens of miles away – sending flames shooting into the night sky and rained burning embers, shrapnel and debris down on shocked and frightened residents.

“They are still getting injured folks out and they are evacuating people from their homes,” Waco police Sgt. William Patrick Swanton said early Thursday morning. He added later, “At some point this will turn into a recovery operation, but at this point, we are still in search and rescue.”

Swanton said authorities believe that between five and 15 people were killed in the blast, but stressed that is an early estimate. There is no indication the blast was anything other than an industrial accident, he said.

Among those believe to be dead: Members of a group of volunteer firefighters and a single law enforcement officer who responded to a fire call at the West Fertilizer Co. shortly before the blast. They remained unaccounted for early Thursday morning.

The explosion that struck around 8 p.m. leveled a four-block area around the plant that a member of the city council, Al Vanek, said was “totally decimated.”

The toll included 50 to 75 houses, an apartment complex with about 50 units that one state police officer said was reduced to “a skeleton,” a middle school and the West Rest Haven Nursing Home, from which first-responders evacuated 133 patients, some in wheelchairs.

Likened to Oklahoma City Bombing

Other witnesses compared the scene to something from the Iraq War or the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing, and authorities said the plant made materials similar to that used to fuel the bomb that tore apart that city’s Murrah Federal Building.

Although authorities said it will be some time before they know the full extent of the loss of life, they put the number of those injured at more than 160 early Thursday. West Mayor Tommy Muska told reporters that his city of about 2,800 residents needs “your prayers.”

“We’ve got a lot of people who are hurt, and there’s a lot of people, I’m sure, who aren’t gonna be here tomorrow,” Muska said. “We’re gonna search for everybody. We’re gonna make sure everybody’s accounted for. That’s the most important thing right now.”

In the hours after the blast, many of the town’s residents wandered the dark and windy streets searching for shelter. Among them was Julie Zahirniako, who said she and her son, Anthony, had been playing at a school playground near the fertilizer plant when the explosion hit. She was walking the track, he was kicking a football.

The explosion threw her son four feet in the air, breaking his ribs. She said she saw people running from the nursing home and the roof of the school lifted into the air.

“The fire was so high,” she said. “It was just as loud as it could be. The ground and everything was shaking.”

32bdIHA 010635 Matt Damon and Luciana Barroso to Renew Their Wedding VowsMATT Damon is set to walk down the aisle again — he and his wife Luciana Barroso are set to renew their wedding vows.

The pair — who raise four daughters, Alexia, 14, Isabella, six, Gia, four, and two-year-old Stella, together — plan to celebrate their marriage with a romantic destination wedding they never had the first time.

“They had a really low-key wedding in Manhattan, so now they want to do something bigger,” a source said.

At their extremely private 2005 nuptials, the only non-family guest was Mayor Bloomberg and now they want to do something with their close friends.

So they have sent out “save the date” cards to those nearest to them for an April bash that’s so top-secret, the guests haven’t even been told of the destination.

After being sworn into office during a private ceremony on Sunday, President Barack Obama publicly began his second term during Monday’s presidential inauguration on the Capitol Steps.

With the crowd – which was estimated at roughly 800,000 people – chanting “O-ba-ma! O-ba-ma!” the President began his address.

“My fellow Americans, we are made for this moment,” he said, “and we will seize it – so long as we seize it together.”

New York Sen. Chuck Schumer kicked off the ceremony with an inspiring speech. “It is a good moment to rejoice today,” he told the crowds. “It is the perfect moment to renew our collective faith in the future of America.”

Myrlie Evers-Williams, an activist who is the widow of slain civil rights leader Medgar Evers, then delivered the Invocation. The 79-year-old made history as the first lay person and woman to do so.

Associate Justice of the Supreme Court Sonia Sotomayor swore in Vice President Joe Biden – making her the first Hispanic person to administer an inaugural oath of office.

James Taylor – who has performed for the President in the past – performed an acoustic version of “America the Beautiful.”

With Michelle Obama holding the BIble, Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts delivered Obama his oath of office, as the 44th President swore to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.
