Lindsey Vonn Reveals Depression Battle

Lindsey Vonn seems to have it all.

As the most decorated skier in U.S. history, Vonn’s easy smile and record-decimating athletic career have made her a fixture on podiums, magazine covers and multi-million dollar endorsement deals. But life off the slopes wasn’t always so rosy.

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, the Olympic gold medalist, 28, discloses that she’s quietly suffered from depression for many years and currently takes an anti-depressant to help manage her symptoms.

“Everything about my life seemed so perfect to people. But I struggle like everyone else,” Vonn confesses.

At one point in 2008, she says, “I couldn’t get out of bed anymore. I felt hopeless, empty, like a zombie.”

But these days, Vonn is happier than she’s been in a long time. “I feel like I just needed to get everything off my chest,” says the ski racer, who filed for divorce late last year from her husband Thomas Vonn, also her longtime manager and coach.

With the winter race season underway – Vonn nabbed her 57th World Cup win on Dec. 8 in St. Moritz, Switzerland – she’s hit a new groove.

“All the parts of my life are finally in sync,” she says. “I accept who I am, and I’m moving forward.”

Matt Damon: I’m Nude ‘A Lot’ in Liberace Film

12/13/2012 at 12:05 PM EST

We’re soon going to be seeing more of Matt Damon – much more – in the Liberace biopic Behind the Candelabra.

“Normally I’d say no to nudity, but I just did a lot of it playing the long-term partner of Liberace,” Damon, 42, tells Playboy in its January/February issue, on newsstands Dec. 18. “I mean, it’s tastefully done. … But this movie’s not going to be for everyone.”

How far does Damon push things? Consider this scene he shot with Michael Douglas, who plays the flamboyant entertainer in the HBO movie that airs next year.

“I had to come out of the pool, go over to Michael Douglas, straddle him on a chaise lounge and start kissing him,” says Damon. “It’s not like I kiss him just once. We drew it up like a football plan.”

Damon jokes there’s a reason why Douglas has been a longtime leading man: “Michael was a wonderful kisser.”

As for himself, Damon, who next appears in Promised Land in theaters Jan. 4, says he’s not much of a romantic with his wife of seven years, Luciana.

“I wish I were better because my wife deserves somebody who surprises her with a gift or flowers or some wonderful idea,” he says. “I’ve never been good at that, and she’s really good at it, which makes me feel even more like sh–.”

Maybe she’s born with it. Or maybe a trainer whipped her into shape.

After giving birth to daughter Apple in 2004, Gwyneth Paltrow got back in shape quickly. But after having son Moses two years later, she had trouble losing the baby weight.

Enter Tracy Anderson. Without bothering to butter her up, Anderson quickly went to work on the Oscar winner.

“She was this force from the second I met her,” Paltrow, 40, tells Redbook in its January issue, on newsstands Dec. 18. “She pulled my pants off. I’ll never forget it. She was like, ‘Oh, my God, wow, I just am so surprised, because you look so good in clothes. I wasn’t expecting this.’ ”

Anderson takes a targeted approach to weight loss, identifying areas that need work and tailoring an exercise regimen to address them. Among the tips she offers Redbook readers:

• Those with heavier thighs and hips should work their upper and lower body equally, and limit the stair-climbing workouts, lunges and spinning.

• To lift and tone your bottom, dial down the running and spinning and do more back and side leg lifts that require flexing your glutes.

• To balance out a thicker core and bust, quit the Pilates and yoga and focus instead on high-impact aerobics, planks and fast-moving arm exercises.

A catered approach worked for Paltrow. “It did such wonders for my life, my confidence, my sex life, everything,” she says.

Anderson adds: “When you feel your best, you’re more confident in bed, It’s not lights-out, under-the-covers sex. It’s more like, ‘Take a look at this!’ “

Taylor Swift: I Don’t Know How to Make Relationships Last

12/07/2012 at 06:00 PM EST

Taylor Swift‘s love life is well documented – in her songs and in the press – but the singer says she still has a lot to learn about romance.

Asked what she doesn’t know about relationships, the singer, who has recently been linked to One Direction heartthrob Harry Styles, tells British Cosmopolitan, “How to make them last.”

“I’ve never had a really long relationship, so I have no idea what that’s like,” says Swift in the January issue, on newsstands Friday. “Wish me luck for the future!”

But Swift, who turns 23 next week, says she does know what she’s looking for in a long-term partner – a good guy.

“I really don’t have any rules about dating when it comes to height, age, career choice, anything like that,” Swift, who has dated every-type from Conor Kennedy, 18, to John Mayer, 35. “It’s really more about strength of character. When it comes to age, I’ve been all over the map.”

Even though she is still figuring out how to find the right guy, she takes something away from every relationship and learns what not to do – usually.

“I think that idea of love I hope for is that you learn a lesson and you don’t have to learn it twice,” she says. “But the song “I Knew You Were Trouble” is about when I knowingly made the same mistake twice. I couldn’t resist it – there’s that temptation to push yourself into a risky situation with someone who is going to hurt you, and that’s what that song is about: not trusting your own instincts and ignoring all the red flags.”

Though Swift is known for writing about her personal life, she says she tries to hide the identity of the men she uses as inspiration for her songs.

“I put details in my songs but never first and last names – and I definitely don’t include social security numbers!” she jokes.
