John Mayor’s New Single ‘Paper Dolls’ — Is it About Taylor Swift?

Could womaniser and singer-songwriter John Mayer’s new single Paper Doll have been written about ex-girlfriend, and pop starlet, Taylor Swift?
Despite the couple separating several years ago, claims that the ballad was inspired by the country songstress, have been backed up by several could-be allusions to Swift’s own music in the lyrics.
Those include the line “You’re like 22 girls in one” is a sly reference to Swift’s latest single.
The song may be a response to Dear John, a song released by Swift about the break-up, which lampooned Mayer The Player’s well-known womanising ways: “maybe it’s just me and my blind optimism to blame, or maybe it’s you and your sick need to give love then take it away (…) I’ll look back and regret how I ignored when they said run as fast as you can”.
Mayer discussed Swift’s diss in an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, claiming it had “humiliated” him, and saying: “It made me feel terrible. Because I didn’t deserve it. I’m pretty good at taking accountability now, and I never did anything to deserve that. It was a really lousy thing for her to do.”
It has also been claimed that the Paper Doll lyrics, “Here’s a dress of gold and blue/ Sure was fun being good to you” is a response to Swift calling herself as “the girl in the dress” in Dear John. Another clue to the songs inspiration A third clue? The lyrics, “And if those angel wings don’t fly/ Someone’s gonna paint you another sky.” In her song Swift sings, “You paint me a blue sky and go back and turn it to rain.”
We can’t wait to see how this country war unfolds…
