After receiving an Oscar assignment for Best Supporting Actress, The Artist‘s heading lady Bérénice Bejo needs time to let it all penetrate in.
“I feel like someone has crushed my conduct and we haven’t unequivocally satisfied it yet,” Bejo, 35, told PEOPLE from her home in Paris Tuesday afternoon, just hours after the nominations were announced. “It’s crazy!”
It was double the pleasure for the desirable French singer as her husband, Michel Hazanavicius, nabbed a Best Director assignment for The Artist. His silent black-and-white film perceived a sum of 10 Academy Award nominations.
With all the hugging, kissing, shouts of fun and phones toll off the hook, one chairman at the Bejo-Hazanavicius domicile didn’t know what all the bitch was about: the couple’s 3½-year-old son, Lucien.
“He doesn’t know what Mommy and Daddy do,” she explained. “For him, Michel’s work is saying, ‘Action!’ One time, he came to set [while we was filming a scene] and thought my pursuit was running. He said to me, ‘Mommy’s work is running.’ We haven’t talked to him about the law yet.”
In the meantime, the newly-minted Oscar nominees will lift a potion before the time strikes midnight and it’s behind to their comparatively normal life.
“We’ll definitely open a unequivocally good bottle of booze – my son will have apple extract – and everybody is going to be happy. Then we’ll arise adult at 4 a.m. to give my daughter her bottle,” Bejo says of baby Gloria, innate in September.
“We go buy diapers and milk. Those things keep us unequivocally connected to reality. Then at the same time, critics from all around the universe wish to speak to us. It’s unreal!”
Preparing for the Academy Awards
Luckily, there’s one thing the singer doesn’t have to worry about: her outfit.
“I already know what we will wear. It’s going to be totally opposite from the Golden Globes,” Bejo told PEOPLE. “I had a lot of pressure. It was like, ‘Bérénice, you have to collect out your dress,’ and we said, ‘Well, we don’t know if we are going to the Oscars.’ [But] I’m not superstitious, so final week we was like, ‘Let’s go and try on dresses.’ ”
What can we design to see on the red carpet? “I can’t tell you. It’s a surprise,” she said with a laugh. “It’s like Christmas. You don’t wish to know until the big day.”
One chairman Bejo hopes to have the possibility to discuss one-on-one with that dusk is Meryl Streep.
“I just venerate her,” she says. “To me, she’s a goddess. we wish we could speak to her for 5 mins and tell her how most we love her. we wish to see her win the Oscar.
