Inside David Tutera’s Daughter Cielo’s First Birthday Party

David Tutera makes his living as an event planner, but he’s never had such an important client — his daughter.

“I’ve done events for celebrities and royalty around the world, and I just told my staff, ‘This is the most important event that I’ve ever had to host in my life,’” Tutera tells PEOPLE of putting together his daughter Cielo‘s first birthday party.

“I had a responsibility to make sure that it was unique, child-like and playful,” he says.

When choosing a theme for the special occasion, Tutera relied on his observations of his young daughter’s current obsessions: bubbles and bunnies.

“As a parent, you pay attention to what your child loves,” Tutera says of deciding on an Alice in Wonderland theme for the Sunday-afternoon fête, which was held in the backyard of his new, Los Angeles-area home. “It was a tea party, which is always great for adults and children.”

Adult guests enjoyed a salad bar and themed cocktails — prepared by a mixologist — while the children were entertained by costumed actors, four bubble machines and a plethora of colorful balloons and beach balls.

“I wanted every adult to feel like a kid and every kid to feel like they were experiencing something they’d never seen before,” says Tutera. “Everyone said that they felt like they were on a 3-hour Disney ride.”

Among the 60 adult guests were Tutera’s family from the East Coast and Joey Toth, his partner of almost a year. But absent from the 11 children in attendance was Cielo’s twin brother, Cedric, who is being raised separately by Tutera’s ex-husbandRyan Jurica.

“When the time is right, it will be talked about,” Tutera says of eventually explaining Cielo’s family history to her.

“And it’s a half-brother not a full brother. Who knows how many half-siblings she may have through surrogacy and egg donors? I think the more important thing is how she came into this world. She came into this world in a very scientific, unique and special way — and very, very loved.”

For now, Tutera wants his daughter to focus on enjoying being a 1-year-old. And that means more bunnies.

“Anywhere you go she wants to see a rabbit,” he says. “I loved collecting teddy bears and she could care less about a teddy bear. If it is a rabbit, she loves it.”

Tutera’s new show, David Tutera’s CELEBrations, premieres Aug. 1 on WEtv.

Hungry Girl: Healthy Snacks You Should Always Have in Your Bag

Lisa Lillien is the author of the popular Hungry Girl website and email newsletter, featuring smart, funny advice on guilt-free eating. She is also the author of nine books, six of which debuted at number one on the New York Times Best Sellers list. Read her blog every Monday for slimmed-down celebrity recipes and more.

Between filmings, photo shoots and premieres, it seems like celebrities are always jetting off somewhere fabulous. The rest of us are just as busy (for probably slightly less glamorous reasons), but one thing’s the same: We all need good-for-you snacks to eat while out and about.

Here are some healthy food ideas that will get you through your hectic day:

1. A few emergency snacks that can always be found in my purse: Jerky (surprisingly low in fat!) and 100-calorie packs of almonds. I love them both because they’re filling and can easily fit into an overstuffed bag!

2. A fresh-fruit platter isn’t practical for toting around, but packing an apple or banana to go is always a good idea. The natural fiber will keep you full. And here’s a fun tip for summer: Freeze grapes overnight, and grab ‘em on the way out the door. Delicious and refreshing.

3. Tempted by the PB&J cupcakes at Magnolia Bakery (of Sex and the City fame)? You’ll love Peanut Butter & Jelly Lärabars. They’re a little indulgent — 210 calories and 10g fat in one bar — but, unlike many snack bars, they’re made with healthy ingredients you can actually pronounce: dates, peanuts, unsweetened dried cherries and sea salt. Perfect for an on-the-go sweets fix.

4. If you’re Jillian Michaels, the occasional decadent chocolate dessert won’t derail your eating habits too badly. But if you’re having a chocolate craving and aren’t in the mood to burn off a zillion extra calories, pack a Quest Double Chocolate Chunk Bar. Each one is 160 calories, crazy tasty, and loaded with both fiber and protein.

‘Til next time… Chew the right thing!

Megan Fox Would Rather be With Her Kids

June 23, 2014 by Adam

MEGAN Fox finds it hard to juggle her career with motherhood.

The actress — who raises two kids with husband Brian Austin Green — would rather be at home with her sons than on a movie set.

“The main thing it does is it affects how much I’m willing to work,” she said. “I’ve never been an extraordinarily ambitious girl or career-oriented, but especially once I got pregnant with my first son and now [having] my second, it’s so hard to be a working mom especially when your heart is not in your work, when your heart is with your family.

“I have to make one movie a year because I have to invest in their future and I have to be able to pay their way through college and be able to provide for them. I’m looking for movies that will shoot in Los Angeles, for projects where I’m part of an ensemble so I can shoot in and out in 10-20 days. It’s all about trying to spend as little time away from my kids as possible.”

Parenting 2 kids under 2 years: “It’s total chaos obviously. Before you have kids you really do not understand how much work it is and how consuming it is. And then you have one and you’re like, ‘Oh my God my baby is my whole world.’ Every moment of the day is dedicated to this one baby and then all of a sudden you have two babies! Their needs are so different because Noah is nearing 2 and then my newborn is 4 months. It’s really hard to manage because I also don’t let them watch TV. It’s not like I’m going to sit Noah in front of the television so I can take care of Bodhi. I have to figure out how to incorporate Noah into the process and have him help me take care of Bodhi and make sure he doesn’t get jealous and make sure nobody’s neglected and everybody’s needs are being met. As a mom it’s hard because I don’t feel like I’m ever giving either one of them 100% of my attention or 100% of myself, so I carry a lot of guilt.”

When she first felt like a mom: “I was really connected during my first pregnancy. But even during my pregnancy I had no idea how worried I was going to be for the rest of my life. From the moment I gave birth to Noah, that was the first time I was like, ‘I love something so much that I will never be the same again.’ I will never be relaxed again because I will always be worried about him and hoping that he is ok and safe and happy.”
