Martha Stewart and Alexis Stewart
Was über-hostess and domestic heavenly Martha Stewart some-more like Mommie Dearest as a parent?
Her daughter Alexis, 46, levies some oppressive claims in her new book, Whateverland: Learning to Live Here, co-authored with Jennifer Koppelman Hutt.
“Martha does all better! You can’t win,” Alexis Stewart writes of her 70-year-old mom, according to an mention performed by U.K.’s Daily Mail. “If we didn’t do something perfectly, we had to do it again. … we grew adult with a glue gun forked at my head.”
As for holidays, Alexis – who recently welcomed a daughter of her own, Jude – writes that special moments like Halloween and Christmas hold little fad for her mother.
“Martha was not meddlesome in being child friendly,” Alexis writes. “She used to make me hang my own presents. She would palm me things right before Christmas and say, ‘Now hang these but don’t demeanour inside.’ ”
On Halloween: “There were no costumes. There was no anything. We incited off all the lights and simulated we weren’t home,” she recalls in the book.
Stewart also alleges in the book that Martha has a robe of urinating with the lavatory doorway open; that she neglected to keep any prepared dishes in the residence when Alexis was young; that her mom is a hoarder who had “a unequivocally hands-off approach to child rearing;” and that Martha refused to buy her a bra when she strike puberty.
But in annoy of the revelations – and malice – there seem to be no tough feelings between the dual these days. In fact, Alexis dedicated the book to her mother, who also offering her own code of support.
“She’s her own person,” Martha writes in the book of her daughter. “She makes adult her own mind. we infrequently try to offer advice, but if it’s not taken, so be it. She unequivocally did compensate attention. She unequivocally does know how to do everything. And still she chooses not to follow in my footsteps.”
